4th of July Conversations

As heard in our van on the 4th of July….

T - So guys, why do we celebrate the 4th of July?

C - Because it’s a holiday

Me - Close but not quite…

M - I think it is Independance day or something

T - Well, this is the day that our forefather’s signed the Declaration of Independance declaring our nation free of England.  July 4th is when we became the United States.  We live in a really great country.

C - I want to live in Israel

Me - (T and I look at each other with big question marks in our eyes) Why do you want to live there?

C- because

Me - because why

C- Just because

Me - because why

C - Well, it’s filled with milk and honey

This coming from a boy whose two favorite things in all of the world are a tall glass of milk and a sandwich made of honey.

A Quarter Past Tomorrow

C wants a big kid bike with multiple gears really bad.  We have told him that we would look at garage sales and see what we can find.  He is a very literal kid and at times hears only what he wants to hear so he was asking how many days away Saturday was.  T was trying to explain that Saturday was 2 1/2 days away (this was on Wednesday).  C, sitting in the back seat of our minivan began talking to himself and making his usual sound effects as he calculated days.  Then he began to bargain with T.  What do you think Dad, maybe we could get my bike at a quarter past tomorrow!

heheheh!

Tonight was the Pumpkin Party at our church.  It is always so fun to see what people are going to dress up as.  There was a live Christmas tree, Raggedy Ann and Andy, a number of Cinderellas, Batmen and Supermen.  My favorite however is one of my friends who dressed up as the husband of another of my friends.  I laugh every time I look at this picture.  Jana is the queen of theatre arts and frankly, I think she pulled off being Chris quite nicely.
